Movement-Based Commedia dell’Arte Course
A 2-month, weekly workshop that introduces the techniques of Commedia dell’Arte. Phase I is available Sept-Nov 2010 in Seattle.

Anyone who had worked in theater will tell you that it is anything but a private experience. Performing theater implies the collaboration of many people and has the definitive purpose of communicating something to someone else through human interaction. The collaborative nature of theater gives purpose to the exploration of artistic expression and socialization in a collective form. This, in reality, is the meaning of the word “company” (as in theater company). Company means “together.”

With this intention, the theater arts are useful because they permit people, or a group of people, to express, communicate, and socialize one’s own needs regardless of social and cultural differences while favoring the process of integration between different people. Working in theater therefore means much more than the simple use of the body and voice: it means “to be playful” with ourselves and others using all the tools available to understand and be understood.
